Survivor Advocate Invitations

how does this work?

  • Potential members submit an application detailing their stroke experience, motivation to join SHINE, and relevant skills or advocacy experience.

  • A SHINE Survivor-led Screening Committee reviews applications to ensure basic eligibility criteria are met (lived experience, commitment, etc.).

  • Candidates participate in a brief interview or conversation (via phone or video call) with a committee member to assess motivation, leadership potential, and alignment with SHINE’s values.

  • Candidates will be  asked to provide a reference or endorsement from a peer, healthcare professional, or community leader familiar with their advocacy or leadership experience.

  • Successful candidates receive a formal invitation to join SHINE, including an orientation package outlining roles, expectations, and opportunities.

  • New members participate in an onboarding session to familiarize themselves with SHINE’s mission, governance, and ongoing projects.
